YANA Scholarship Award in Buea (Southwest Cameroon)
YANA’s Education for All Scholarship Award project seeks to improve the educational opportunities of underprivileged children and youths in Cameroon, with particular focus on those living in the most vulnerable and marginalized communities. The project aims to reduce poverty, promote gender equality and empower the youth through quality education. The success of this program which relies primarily on donations and partnerships for its funding, is measured by the number of beneficiaries who are been given access to sound educational opportunities and the overall impact on the communities.
On Sunday, September 10, 2023, YANA’s team held an award ceremony at Christ Light Assemblies (CLA) Church Buea to present scholarships to 26 children in Southwest Cameroon. The event began at 12:30pm local time with YANA Cameroon representatives expressing their gratitude to Pst Samuel Molombe, the Senior Pastor of CLA Buea, for hosting the event in his church. Afterward, the Project Director encouraged parents to follow up with their children’s education, while children were advised to work hard as a sign of appreciation for the scholarship. The ceremony proceeded with the award of full scholarships, which included tuition fees, books, and uniforms to the 26 beneficiaries, ranging from nursery to middle school. Parents and beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for this opportunity and promised to work hard to achieve excellent results in school. The event closed with family photographs, and interviews with the beneficiaries and their parents who expressed their profound gratitude to YANA and partners for giving them the opportunity to attend school this year. The YANA Cameroon team took the opportunity to create a database of contact information of the parents to ensure that the beneficiaries are well supervised and supported to achieve better results in school.
Both parents and beneficiaries of the scholarship expressed their gratitude to RE!Granting-Re Earthing Initiative through YANA USA INC. for giving them the opportunity to get a sound education. Indeed, this award was a timely intervention to many students who had no hope of schooling due to financial hardship. Receiving this assistance was therefore a seasoned relief to many and left both beneficiaries and their parents smiling and expressing profound gratitude to their benefactors.
The team at YANA expresses their immense appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the award ceremony a success, and once again thanked their benefactors especially to RE!Granting-Re Earthing Initiative for supporting the YANA mission of assuring communities, “You Are Not Alone”.
Challenges and Suggestions:
In a bid to promote inclusive and more sustainable future for children and youths through education and skill training, it is therefore imperative that the YANA Education for All Scholarship Award is extended to other parts of the country and increase the number of annual awards, hence more funding is required.
