Operation Green Sahel Project (June 2024 – Present)

Operation Green Sahel Project is a YANA Inc-Earth Rising Foundation Cooperation for Environmental Awareness, Protection and Climate Intersection which involved planting 1,000 drought-resistant Neem, Acacia and Cailcedrat trees across three communities; Adamaoua, Vinde-Ngong and Rabingha, and donated a solar-powered borehole to the drought-stressed community of Rabingha in the Lagdo subdivision, North region of Cameroon. The project aimed to enhance environmental sustainability, improve local livelihoods, and provide the community with reliable access to clean water.

Objectives

  • Plant 1,000 native trees to restore degraded land and enhance local biodiversity.
  • Install a solar-powered borehole to provide a sustainable water source for the community.
  • Involve local residents in tree planting and borehole maintenance to ensure project sustainability.
  • Conduct workshops on sustainable practices and the importance of reforestation and water conservation.

Project Outcomes

  • Restoration of degraded land with increased biodiversity.
  • Improved air quality and reduced heatwaves in reforested areas.
  • Enhanced water security for the community, reducing the burden of water scarcity.
  • Improved overall public health outcomes.
  • Increased community engagement and awareness around environmental and water conservation issues.
  • Trained 150 community members on sustainable practices, ensuring long-term project sustainability.
  • Improved agricultural productivity due to water availability.
  • Opportunities for community members to participate in future reforestation and maintenance activities.
